The chili red oscar (Astronotus ocellatus) is a selectively bred color variant of the classic freshwater Oscar cichlid. It features an intense, vibrant deep red or orange body, often with minimal dark tiger markings, and grows to about 12 to 14 inches long with an interactive, intelligent personality.

Tank Requirements and Setup.

Tank size: Minimum 75 gallons for one fish; 90 to 125 gallons is better for long-term health.

Water temperature: 24 °C to 28 °C (76 °F to 82 °F).Water pH: 6.0 to 7.5.

Tank decor: Use heavy-duty filtration and secure rocks or driftwood, as these fish love to dig and rearrange substrate.

Diet and Behavior.

Diet: Omnivorous and high-protein; accept floating cichlid pellets, frozen bloodworms, shrimp, krill, and occasional fresh vegetables.

Temperament: Generally peaceful for a large cichlid, but will eat tiny fish and show dominance toward weak tankmates.

Lifespan: 10 to 15 years.
