Kuhli Loach (5-6 cm)

The Kuhli Loach (Pangio kuhlii) is a peaceful, eel-like freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia, highly prized by aquarists for its unique appearance and beginner-friendly care. These nocturnal scavengers spend most of their time at the bottom of the tank, sifting through the substrate for food fragments.

Key Requirements & Tank Setup

Substrate: Use fine, smooth sand rather than gravel. Kuhli Loaches love to burrow, and rough pebbles can scrape their smooth, scale-less bellies.

Hiding Places: Provide plenty of live plants, driftwood, caves, and leaf litter. The more secure places they have to hide, the more confident and active they become.

Security: Ensure your tank has a tight-fitting, well-sealed lid. Their slender, serpentine bodies make them notorious escape artists.

Filter Intake Protection: Cover your filter's intake pipe with a pre-filter sponge. Their curious nature drives them to swim inside small tubes, where they can get trapped.

Social Needs: Keep them in groups of at least 6 individuals. While not a schooling fish, they are highly social and will become extremely stressed or permanently hide if kept alone.Diet and Feeding

Kuhli loaches are omnivorous bottom scavengers. They primarily eat sinking pellets, high-quality granules, and frozen or live treats like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. Because they are nocturnal, it is best to feed them right after the aquarium lights are turned off for the evening.

They are completely peaceful and will not bother other fish, shrimp, or snails.
