Silver Tip Tetra (Hasemania nana)

The silver tip tetra (Hasemania nana) is a hardy, active freshwater schooling fish native to the São Francisco River basin in Brazil, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length. Known for their semi-transparent bodies with coppery-gold sheens and distinct shimmering silver tips on their fins, they are a popular and affordable choice for freshwater aquariums.

Care and Habitat Requirements

Schooling Behavior: Keep them in groups of at least 6 to 10 individuals. Smaller groups increase stress and lead to fin-nipping behavior toward other tankmates.

Tank Mates: Pair them with similarly sized, robust, and fast-swimming peaceful fish like Corydoras Catfish, Neon Tetras, and danios. Avoid slow-moving or long-finned species like bettas or angelfish which can get nipped.

Aquarium Setup: They appreciate planted tanks with open swimming areas, driftwood, and darker substrates to help mimic their natural shaded stream habitats and show off their colors.

Diet: As energetic omnivores, they readily accept high-quality flakes, micro-pellets, and frozen or live foods like brine shrimp and daphnia.
