Bloody Mary Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi)

The Bloody Mary Shrimp (Neocaridina davidi) is a premium, intensely deep-red freshwater dwarf shrimp prized in the aquarium hobby. Unlike standard Red Cherry Shrimp, which carry their red coloration in their outer shell, Bloody Mary shrimp possess a clear exoskeleton with deep-red tissue underneath, giving them a rich, wine-like translucency. They are hardy scavengers, making them an excellent choice for beginners and advanced aquascapers alike.

Key Characteristics

Appearance: Striking crimson-to-wine coloration where both males and females display uniform, intense color.

Genetic Line: They are selectively bred from the chocolate shrimp line rather than standard red cherry lines. Mixing them with ordinary Cherry Shrimp will dilute their unique traits.

Behavior: Peaceful, active, and non-aggressive bottom-dwellers that constantly graze on algae and biofilm.

Optimal Tank Parameters

To maintain a healthy colony and preserve their bright coloration, keep your tank within these parameters.

Tank Size: Minimum 5 gallons (19 liters).

Temperature: 68°F to 75°F (20°C to 24°C).

pH Range: 6.8 to 7.5.

Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): 150 to 300 ppm.

General Hardness (GH): 4 to 8 dGH.

Diet and Care

They are omnivorous scavengers. They thrive on natural biofilm and green algae, but you should supplement their diet with high-quality foods. For optimum shell health, use sinking pellets or specialized snowflake foods
