The Blue Base Golden Arowana (often called the Blue Base Crossback) is one of the most premium, rare, and visually stunning freshwater fish in the aquarium hobby. Highly coveted by collectors as a symbol of status, wealth, and good luck, this fish features a deep metallic blue core on its scales framed by a sharp golden outer rim.

Key Visual Characteristics

Color-Shifting Illusion: The fish looks dark blue or electric blue from a distance. When it turns or catches the light, it flashes brilliant, radiant gold.

The "Crossback" Feature: As the fish matures, the distinct gold and blue coloration crosses completely over its back (the 6th row of scales).

Thin Rims vs. Core: High-grade specimens feature very thin gold rims and an intense, wide blue core. As they age, the gold frames can widen.

Diet and Behavior

Diet: They are strict carnivores. They eat market shrimp, small feeder fish, crickets, mealworms, and high-quality floating carnivore pellets.

Aggression: They are highly territorial and aggressive toward their own kind or similarly shaped fish.

Tank Mates: Best kept alone, or with large, peaceful, bottom-dwelling fish (like large tinfoil barbs, plecos, or freshwater stingrays) that will stay out of their upper territory.
