The Golden Tinfoil Barb (also known as the Albino Tinfoil Barb) is a highly popular, fast-swimming freshwater fish known for its bright metallic yellow-gold body and contrasting vibrant red fins. While they are very hardy and beginner-friendly, their massive adult size means they require a very large aquarium to thrive.

Temperament & Tank Mates

Schooling Behavior: You must keep them in groups of at least 5 to 6 fish. Keeping them alone causes severe stress.

Peaceful Giants: They are peaceful but high-energy swimmers.The "Small Fish" Risk: They are not aggressive, but they will eat any small fish (like Neons or Guppies) that fit into their mouths.

Great Tank Mates: Large, robust fish like Silver Dollars, Bala Sharks, Plecos, Oscars, and Arowanas.

Tank Setup & Diet

No Live Plants: Tinfoil Barbs are notorious herbivores. They will quickly eat and destroy most live aquarium plants. Stick to driftwood, rocks, or sturdy fake plants.

Filtration: Because they grow large and eat a lot, they create a heavy bioload. A strong canister filter is highly recommended.

Balanced Nutrition: Feed a daily mix of high-quality flakes/pellets, algae wafers, and fresh blanched greens like spinach or lettuce. They also enjoy protein treats like brine shrimp or bloodworms.
