Half Moon Betta - Green Orchid

The Green Orchid Betta is a stunning, highly sought-after color variation of the Siamese fighting fish (Betta splendens). This variety features a jet-black body base layered with intense, metallic green iridescence radiating through the fins. The green coloration can range from a deep emerald to a vibrant turquoise hue, flashing brilliantly under proper aquarium lighting.

Genetic Background & Appearance

The Orchid Pattern: Derived from the traditional "Black Orchid" line, which typically shows blue streaks over a dark body. Selective breeding isolated the green metallic gene instead of blue.

Fin Shapes: You can find Green Orchids across various tail types, most notably Halfmoon (180-degree fan tail), Crowntail (spiky, webbed fins), and Plakat (short, wild-type fins).

The Color Flip: Due to their iridescence, these fish often look completely black in low light but "light up" with emerald green under full-spectrum aquarium LEDs.

Tank Requirements

To keep a Green Orchid Betta healthy and display its colors fully, look to provide:

Tank Size: Minimum of 5 gallons (19 liters).

Temperature: Stable warm water between 24°C to 28°C (75°F to 82°F) using a reliable aquarium heater.
