Salvinia floaters are popular, fast-growing aquatic ferns used in freshwater aquariums and ponds. They feature fuzzy, water-repellent green leaves and short hanging roots that absorb excess nitrates, block unwanted light to starve algae, and offer safe hiding spots for shrimp and fish fry.

Care and Requirements

Lighting: Needs medium to high aquarium lighting (5,000K to 6,500K spectrum) placed a few inches above the surface.

Water Flow: Prefers calm or stagnant water; strong currents from hang-on-back filters or bubblers can submerge and melt the leaves.

Maintenance: Requires regular thinning since it multiplies quickly, but it is much easier to scoop out and manage than tiny duckweed.

Cover: Can grow well under a tank lid, but make sure there is enough airflow to prevent moisture rot.
