Siamese female Fighter

A female Siamese fighting fish (also known as a female Betta, Betta splendens) is a freshwater fish native to Southeast Asia. They are popular in the aquarium hobby because they are significantly less aggressive than males, allowing them to live in groups or community setups.

Key Characteristics

Appearance: Females generally have shorter fins and rounder bodies than males. While wild females are dull, selectively bred captive females display vibrant shades of red, blue, purple, and yellow.

Egg Spot: Adult females display a small, white spot (the ovipositor) on their underside between their ventral fins, used for laying eggs.

Temperament: They are much more peaceful than males. They can be kept together in a single tank, a setup known as a "Betta Sorority".

Tank Care & Setup

Tank Size: They require a minimum tank size of 5 gallons (approx. 19 liters) with a reliable heater.

Water Temperature: Keep the water warm, ideally between 22°C and 30°C.

Filtration: Use a low-flow filter, as loud or strong currents stress them out.

Decor: Provide plenty of live plants and hiding spaces to reduce stress and territorial disputes.

Compatibility

Other Females: You can keep a group of 5 or more females together if the tank is large enough (20+ gallons) and heavily planted to break lines of sight.

Tank Mates: They cohabit well with peaceful, community fish like neon tetras, corydoras catfish, and larger shrimp. Avoid fin-nipping fish or males of their own species.
