Super Jelly Head Red Oranda Goldfish

The Super Jelly Head Red Oranda Goldfish is an elite, highly prized variety of fancy goldfish distinguished by its massive, translucent, and prominent "wen" (headgrowth) that completely covers its head. While a standard Oranda features a moderate cap, the "Super Jelly Head" strain is selectively bred for a highly exaggerated, brain-like, or berry-like hood that becomes increasingly dense and fleshy as the fish matures.

Care Requirements

Because of their extreme anatomy, Super Jelly Head Orandas demand more specialized care than common goldfish varieties.

Tank Size: Minimum 110–150 liters for a single adult fish, plus an extra 40 liters for each additional tankmate. They can grow up to 20–30 cm in optimal conditions.

Filtration: High-capacity filtration is necessary because fancy goldfish produce large amounts of waste. However, water flow must be gentle, as their bulky bodies and heavy fins prevent them from swimming against strong currents.

Aquarium Decor: Use only smooth rocks and bare-bottom tanks or soft sand. Avoid sharp plastic plants or jagged decorations, as their delicate, fleshy wen can easily tear, leading to bacterial infections.

Diet: High-quality sinking pellets formulated specifically for fancy goldfish. This prevents them from gulping air at the surface, which causes buoyancy and swim bladder issues. Supplement their diet with blanched vegetables like peas and zucchini.
