Anubias is widely considered one of the easiest, hardiest, and most popular live aquarium plants in the fishkeeping hobby. Native to West Africa, these slow-growing epiphytes feature thick, leathery, dark-green leaves that tolerate a wide range of water parameters and low-light environments.

Core Care Requirements.

The Golden Rule: Never bury the horizontal stem, known as the rhizome, completely under substrate. Smothering it causes the plant to rot and die.

Planting Method: Anchor the plant to hardscape like driftwood or rocks using fish-safe super glue, cotton thread, or fishing line. Its roots will naturally wrap around the décor over time.

Lighting: Low to moderate lighting is ideal. High light intensity doesn't speed up its growth significantly but will cause green spot algae to cover the slow-growing leaves.

Nutrients: Anubias primarily absorbs food directly from the water column through its leaves and roots, making liquid fertilizers ideal. Carbon dioxide (CO2) supplementation is entirely optional.

Fish Compatibility: Because the foliage is exceptionally tough, herbivorous fish like goldfish or African cichlids generally leave it completely alone
