Hygrophila Corymbosa (Temple Plant or Giant Hygro)

Hygrophila corymbosa, also known as Temple Plant or Giant Hygro, is an undemanding, fast-growing freshwater aquarium plant native to Southeast Asia. It features long, broad green leaves and serves as an excellent natural filter by absorbing excess nitrates and ammonium. This makes it a popular choice for both beginners and experienced aquascapers.

Placement: Background or midground.Water Temperature: 18°C to 30°C.

pH Range: 5.0 to 7.5.

Water Hardness: Soft to moderately hard (2–18 dKH).

Lighting: Medium to high.

CO2 Injection: Recommended but not strictly required.

Planting and Propagation

Prepare Stems: Remove any lower leaves from the bottom 5 cm of the stem.

Plant in Substrate: Push the stem firmly into the aquarium substrate. Space individual stems slightly apart to ensure light reaches lower leaves.

Trimming: Cut the top shoots regularly to control height. Trimming promotes lateral branching, making the plant look much bushier.

Propagating: Take the trimmed stem cuttings and replant them directly into the substrate to grow new roots.

⚠️ Common Maintenance Tips

Leaf Melting: Most commercial bundles arrive grown emersed (out of water). When submerged, old leaves may melt away as the plant transitions to its aquatic form.

Iron Deficiency: If the leaves start turning pale or yellow, it is highly susceptible to iron deficiencies. Supplement with liquid fertilizers.

Shrimp Safety: If you purchase generic bunched versions, quarantine them or change the water frequently before placing them with sensitive shrimp, as they might carry trace pesticides.
