Scissortail Rasbora (Rasbora trilineata), Three-lined Rasbora

The scissortail rasbora (Rasbora trilineata), also called the three-lined rasbora, is an active, peaceful freshwater fish known for its forked tail that moves like an open pair of scissors.

Appearance and Behavior

Body shape: They have a slender, torpedo-shaped body with a silver, semi-translucent sheen.

Markings: A thin black line runs from their gills to their tail. Their forked tail features striking bands of yellow, black, and white.

Movement: While swimming or resting, they rapidly open and close their tail fin like scissors, which inspires their common name.

Schooling: They are very social and feel secure only when kept in a group. You should buy at least six to form a proper school.

Tank Requirements

Tank size: They need a long aquarium of at least 20 to 55 gallons (or roughly 75+ liters) because they are fast, active swimmers.

Aquarium lid: Use a tight-fitting cover because these fish are strong jumpers.

Environment: Keep open swimming space in the center. Add plants along the sides and back of the tank for a natural feel.

Tank mates: They match well with other peaceful community fish like small tetras, danios, and corydoras. Avoid aggressive or large predatory fish.
