2.5cm (1 inch) Goldfish "feeder fish"

A 2.5cm (1 inch) common goldfish is a young juvenile fish, often referred to as a "feeder fish" or a fry at the very beginning of its life cycle. While they look tiny and suitable for small spaces right now, they grow incredibly fast and will require massive setups to stay healthy.

Age and Growth Rate

Current Age: A common goldfish at this size is typically only 4 to 6 weeks old.

Growth Potential: In its first year, it can quickly reach 6 to 10 cm.

Adult Size: Fully grown common goldfish easily reach 30 to 38 cm (12–15 inches) in length.

Lifespan: With proper care, they can live for 20 to 30+ years.

Critical Tank Requirements

No Fishbowls: Keeping this fish in a bowl will stunt its growth, cause ammonia burns, and shorten its life to just a few weeks or months.

Minimum Tank Size: You need a minimum of 75 to 110 liters (20–30 gallons) for just one juvenile fish.

Adult Needs: As it grows, it will eventually require a 280+ liter (75+ gallon) tank or an outdoor garden pond.

Filtration: Goldfish produce massive amounts of waste. You must use a heavy-duty power filter.
