Chestnut Apple Snail - Mystery Snail (Pomacea bridgesii)

The chestnut apple snail—commonly referred to in the pet trade as a chestnut Mystery Snail (Pomacea bridgesii)—is a popular, peaceful freshwater aquarium scavenger featuring a rich, dark brown shell and an iridescent body. They grow to about 2 inches in diameter and help clean up excess food and decaying matter.

Care and Requirements

Tank Size: At least 10 gallons for a couple of snails, adding 5 gallons for each extra snail.

Water Parameters: Temperature between 70°F and 82°F (21°–28°C), with a pH above 7.0 and adequate calcium for shell health.

Diet: Algae, biofilm, sinking pellets, algae wafers, and blanched vegetables like zucchini.

Safety: Highly sensitive to copper; keep a secure lid on the tank because they breathe air and can climb out.
