Marimo Moss Ball

Marimo Moss Balls are not actually moss, but a rare form of spherical algae known scientifically as Aegagropila linnaei. They are incredibly popular, low-maintenance aquatic houseplants native to cool lakes in Japan and Northern Europe.

Essential Care Guide

Light: Provide low to medium indirect sunlight. Avoid hot, direct sun to prevent browning.

Water: Keep them entirely submerged in clean, cold water. Tap water is perfectly fine.

Water Changes: Replace the water every 1 to 2 weeks. Flush out any debris during changes.

Temperature: Keep the water temperature cool, ideally below 25°C (77°F).

Maintenance: Roll them gently in your hands during water changes to maintain their round shape.

Common Uses

Aquariums: They make excellent companion plants for freshwater tanks. They safely house shrimp and small fish like bettas.

Terrariums: You can grow them in small glass jars, bottles, or decorative bowls as minimalist desk decor.

Natural Filters: They absorb nitrates and toxic waste from water. This helps keep aquariums cleaner for longer.
