The "Red line snake fish"—most commonly known as the Redline Snakehead, Red Snakehead, or Giant Snakehead (Channa micropeltes)—is one of the largest, most aggressive freshwater predatory fish in the world. It gets its "red line" name from its highly vibrant juvenile stage, but it changes drastically as it grows.

Appearance & Dramatic Transformation

Juvenile Stage: Young fish feature bright red, orange, and black lateral stripes. This is the phase where they are popularly sold under the name "redline snakehead".

Adult Stage: After about two months, they lose their red color entirely. Adults develop a duller, highly intimidating bluish-black and white marble pattern.

Size: They are true monsters, easily growing up to 4.3 feet (1.3 meters) long and weighing over 44 pounds (20 kg).
